The Royal Society is the voice of UK science, dedicated to promoting excellence by providing professional leadership and recognising and rewarding the best in UK science.  The Royal Society also invests in the future of UK science by providing funding for over 1600 young scientists every year.

Funding and Grants

The Royal Society supports over 1600 scientists each year through a range of funding schemes and grants including research fellowships, innovation awards, conference travel grants, small research grants, laboratory refurbishment grants and instrument grants. We also offer education partnership grants to link scientists with school teachers. Around 75% of this funding comes from our parliamentary grant and 25% from donations and private funds.

Royal Society Discussion Meetings

The Royal Society holds around ten interdisciplinary scientific discussion meetings each year as part of its scientific programme. These meetings focus on critical stages of new or rapidly changing science and technology.

Science policy resources

This is the Library’s most rapidly growing collection. The catalogue now contains over 10,000 science policy items in the form of books, journals and grey literature - consultation papers, committee reports, etc. - documents which can often be difficult to trace through conventional academic libraries and booksellers.

Fellows of the Royal Society

Professor Jonathan Ashmore FRS

The Society’s foundation is its Fellowship, which is made up of the most eminent scientists, engineers and technologists from the UK and the Commonwealth. Each year the Fellows elect 44 new Fellows, chosen from across the science, engineering and medicine spectrium - an honour regarded as the highest accolade a scientist can receive and next only to a Nobel Prize. Six Foreign Members are also elected each year.
